“We wanted to make a more rock record than ever before, but still have those pop elements that make us Forever The Sickest Kids,” said FTSK frontman, Jonathan Cook about the bands new album which is set to release on June 25th, 2013. The album, titled J.A.C.K, will be released under Fearless Records and will contain 11 songs filled with pop rock goodness.

The band has released a preview of their first single off the new album and we have got to say, we’re really excited to hear the rest of the song which is set to drop on May 7th!

Fans are counting down the days until Pierce The Veil releases the highly anticipated music video for their song “Bulls in the Bronx” off their latest album Collide with the Sky. The music video is set to drop on the 7th of May. The band recorded it on an off-day while on their current tour: The Spring Fever Tour. Pierce The Veil is co-headlining with All Time Low and are supported by Mayday Parade, and the ever so lovely British bomb-shells You Me At Six. We’ve been lucky enough to attend a show and we have got to say: if you have the opportunity to go to one of the dates near you - do it! All the bands put on fantastic, pumped up sets that are definitely worth the 27 bucks (or however much it is near you!) and mosh pit procured bruises! Pierce the Veil frontman Vic Fuentes has stated in past interviews that he wrote the song after learning that a devoted fan from Australia committed suicide at nineteen years old. The sound of the song itself is emotionally charging with it’s Mariachi-esque breakdown that leaves you ready to open up a pit, but after paying special attention to the lyrics it really hits home. Pierce The Veil is known for the awareness they bring to depression and suicide, and have been a rock for many of their fans. In honor of Oliva Penpraze, the young girl who inspired the song, we want to extend to you all lots of love and if you click here you can find important hotlines if you ever need them.

Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla Releases Split 7" with Now, Now's Drummers Solo Project: Sombear

After learning of the Postal Service’s reunion tour, Death Cab fans have been patiently awaiting news of what the other band members were going to be up to this summer. Turns out, they’re keeping busy while their frontman is out on tour! Death Cab for Cutie’s guitarist/producer Chris Walla and Now, Now’s drummer released a Walla/Sombear split 7” for Record Store day on April 20th. The split 7” was released through Walla’s record label: Trans-Records to which Now, Now signed onto earlier this year. Walla’s somber piano tune, “Never Give Up” offers a sound that Death Cab fans are used to and always excited to hear. Walla’s melancholy A-side is definitely a fitting companion to Sombear’s not so somber jam, “Incredibly Still” which you can listen to here. I know we live in a world of free downloads and quick fixes, but do yourself a favor and go pick up the actual 7”. It’s worth the old timey h1p$ter crinkle sound that digital tunes don’t give us now.

Today, both of us were able to go to The Roxy in West Hollywood...

Today, both of us were able to go to The Roxy in West Hollywood and catch the last half of The Rocket Summer’s awesome set. He makes some serious feel good music. If you’re in a rut or just want to listen something that will automatically brighten up your mood - this is definitely it. Bryce Avary has got to be the happiest performer we’ve had the luck of watching and his smile is contagious. Everyone in the crowd was singing along, clapping along and smiling.

And while we didn’t get the chance to watch States or The Scene Aesthetic, we’re sure they put on great sets as well.

“Speak every time you stand so you do not forget yourself....

“Speak every time you stand so you do not forget yourself.
Introduce yourselves and your roles in the band.

Ben: Ben Peterson. Guitarist/Lead singer. I also write.

Anthony: My name is Anthony Aguirre and I play lead guitar and sing backup vocals.

Brandon: Brandon Shapiro, I play bass and sing background vocals.

Matt: I am Matt Peterson and I play drums and back-up vocals.

You guys got into the music business at a very early age, when did you realize that music was what you wanted to do with your lives?

Ben: I realized at an early age that I wanted to play music. Maybe 6 or 7. The movies “That Thing You Do”, “La Bamba”, and “Buddy Holly Story” all made me want to be in a band.

Anthony: Music saved my life in many ways and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Brandon: After seeing the movie “That Thing You Do” I was really inspired to be in a band and decide that it was what I wanted to do.

Matt: When we first started we didn’t think of playing in a band as more than an extremely fun thing to do. I didn’t think of playing in a band as more than an extremely fun thing to do. I didn’t think in terms of music being what I wanted to do with my life until I was older. Probably in middle school. Definitely when we got signed at age 16.

Your latest LP, “Duped” came out this past May what was the process like when recording it?

Ben: Recording “Duped” was a dream come true. We got to record with an amazing producer and didn’t have a label telling us what to do. We spent a month in Memphis. It was a great experience to have with the newer band members. We all grew as friends, bandmates and musicians. Also we had the best BBQ in the world. Always delicious. Dry rub changed my life.

Anthony: This was my first full album recording experience. The process was a good learning experience but a lot of downtime to practice almost anything you can get you hands on in the studio.

Brandon: Lots of fun. We would wake up every morning eat breakfast and then straight to the studio where we just started working. We got to work with some really great people while making Duped.

Matt: We recorded it with Paul Ebersold who also did our album that we made on Jive. He had been not only a musical mentor, but also a dear friend of my brother and I. We were beyond excited to work with him again, as well as spending time in Memphis eating the best ribs in the world (Corkys). We tracked duped for the whole month of November. I feel worked under the wing of a producer. Also, it was crucial to our growth as a band. After that month we felt more tight-knit than ever.

What were some of your musical influences while recording Duped?

Ben: The songs on “Duped” were written over the course of a few years. Some dating back to when we were doing our album with Jive. So there are a variety of different styles on “Duped”. I would say that we weren’t shy about our 90’s influences and we let our inner Beatles and Beach Boys come out more. But with our natural inclination to rock being fully expressed. You can hear the Weezer and Oasis influences on a few songs.

Anthony: At the time I was listening to a lot of Foo Fighters and The Kooks.

Brandon: Everything, we all like such a variey of music that it’s hard to pick just a couple certain influences.

Matt: For this album especially even though they are always an influence, The Beatles. But also I think Duped was inspired by the sounds of Green Day, Nirvana, The Beach Boys, Oasis to name a few. Our influences tend to be more songs orientated than genre.

So far as a band, what has been your most memorable experience?

Ben: With the new band, I would say that recording was a great experience for all of us. Also we have done some traveling of the west coast and that is always fun. Our CD release at the House of Blues was really memorable. It was one of those nights when you just felt like you owned it.

Anthony: Going to Memphis to record Duped, I will never forget my first album recording experience. Good music, good people, and really good BBQ.

Brandon: For me being in Memphis for a month recording Duped was probably the most memorable experience. It was the first time in my life I got to do something like that.

Matt: With this line up, I would say our trip to Memphis. That was definitely a highlight so far.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Ben: I’ve been lucky to have a great network of support from family and friends and over the years I’ve had some really good insightful advice. It’s hard to answer this without sounding too cliche but I would have to say that the whole “don’t give up” and “if it were easy everyone would do it” has really stuck with me.

Anthony: “Dont ever give up on your dream” That was from uncle/godfather.

Brandon: Never give up…

Matt: Don’t be a dick.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Ben: Um…world peace? But seriously that’s a hard question to answer because there are a lot of real problems. I guess I hope people would understand each other better and see the common humanity in everyone. That we all have different views but we essentially want the same things.

Anthony: To give everyone a fair chance to have a strong and healthy life.

Brandon: The Dares would be everywhere.

Matt: The ways of the hipster.

Destiny-and excuse to wait for things to happen, or the real deal?

Ben: I think using destiny as an excuse to wait is an unfortunate trap and may be a sign that someone doesn’t quite grasp how the world works. If things are supposed to happen, you are probably also supposed to do something to allow it to happen.

Anthony: You can’t wait around for Destiny. If you push dedication and hard work.

Brandon: The real deal.

Matt: Whether you believe in destiny or not, I think it’s only an excuse to work towards what you want. How can someone determine what’s “meant to be” if they never lifted a finger to find out?

If you could shout one sentence so loud that the whole world could hear it what would it be?

Ben: RICOLAAAA!

Anthony: LISTEN TO THE DARES :)

Brandon: I am Spartacus.

Matt: Get off the couch and do something.

How do you disregard society’s idea of “normalcy” to be your own person in your everyday lives?

Ben: I think that following your dreams and being in the whole music world can be viewed by society at worst as a bunch of delusional losers or some kind of freak show where the words “honesty” and “integrity” don’t exist. So I think it’s vital disregard those views. I think the only way to excel and thrive is to follow what you love and to allow you to be you.

Anthony: Everyone’s lives are different, everyone has their own view on normalcy. I believe in just being yourself.

Brandon: I just don’t care what society thinks, I do what I want or dress how I want, I just be me no matter what.

Matt: I think everyone disregards society’s idea of normalcy at least a little bit to what best suits their life and aspirations. I don’t think a normal person exists, however there are very normal things to want in your life. Such as companionship, love, and financial stability. I think that even if someone strives for what they think normalcy is, the manner of what they live it out would be as unique as they are.

Get Up, Get Out

Before I start, I should probably tell you guys that I’m spending part of my university career in upstate New York. I would highly suggest going out of state (or at least out of town) for college if you have the means to do so. I enjoy exploring new places, so I travel into New York City once a week for classes. Last week, I spent a few hours at Occupy Wall Street. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

I’d been following it for a few weeks so it was exciting for me to be able to experience it and be a part of it. I crossed the street and while the first thing I heard was distant bongo and acoustic guitar playing, the first thing I saw was policemen lined up in front of barricades. I walked through the groups of people not really knowing what to do but knowing that I wanted to be there and that I wanted to do something. There were different stations placed throughout for people to do different things: an art center, a clothes center, a make-shift kitchen, and a library along with many other things. I built up the courage and started conversations with people. These strangers were probably a few of the nicest I’ve ever encountered. We would stand around or sit and talk about everything. We talked about the movement, yes, but we also just talked about how our day had been going. We talked about change and we talked about how we all need to do something.

These people are there to try and be a part of something, in any way they can. They believe in Occupy Wall Street and they want change. Yes, this has turned into a worldwide movement, but it started off with one thought. That’s how things start off: as one tiny thought. One person spoke this thought out loud and other people agreed and acted upon it. These people weren’t sure if this movement would catch on or even if they’d have a big enough starting group to get anything done. There is always a risk. Never think you aren’t important or that you can’t make a change. You can always do something, even when you are going up against the odds. Never think that your ideas are stupid because you never know what they might spark. Always try.

I was having an off morning this past Friday and decided to skip my 8am Biology class. Feeling kind of lost and not knowing what to do with myself, I decided to take a drive down Hollywood and Sunset blvd –my comfort zones. I frequent these two streets often and I am so used to seeing them filled with tourists and buskers that driving around and seeing how empty they were came to me as quite the shock. It was a beautiful sight to see nonetheless. I ended up parking my car on the corner of Olive and Sunset. This is definitely the best place to park on Sunset if you’re lucky enough to find parking. You not only have a perfect view of the rest of the street but you also have one of the most beautiful views of Los Angeles that I have ever seen. I sat there blasting my music and couldn’t help but get excited. I stared out into the city and just could not contain myself. There is so much to be done in this world and we are so young and so able. The world is at our fingertips and she is begging us to go out and explore. There is no need to be afraid of the new and there is definitely no need to be discouraged by the past. Do not let fear rule your life. Get up and get out there. Show the world what you’re made of and show yourself what you’re capable of. Dare yourself to take a leap. Be fearless and get excited because there is a huge, huge world out there for you to make an impact on.

This is probably a bit weird, but I believe that you should pick up the fortune cookie that grabs your attention first. It just always feels right, in my opinion. I ended up grabbing the one that was farthest away from me and closest to my father. When I opened it, I saw four simple words: life is a verb. It instantly clicked with Project Midnight and our message. Life is a verb, it’s as simple as that. Don’t live your life as though it’s an adjective or even a noun, live it as though it’s a verb. Be active in absolutely everything that you do. Don’t sit back and be content as the idle indirect object. Don’t let others act for you. Go out and be the action.

Live loud.

The idea behind this feature is that we share with you our journey to be involved in our own lives. We hope you share with us your journey. We can’t wait to see what you’re up to.

Our weekend started on Thursday. Living in Los Angeles, California, Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard have become second homes to us. So as per usual, we ended up on Sunset.

Some major PM talk was needed so we found refuge from the sun at the Hustler Cafe. We know what you’re thinking, but we really only needed a place to sit and talk. After a few hours of being productive we decided to roam around Sunset. There was a show at each venue on the Strip, so we venue hopped for a majority of the night. As we were leaving the Key Club, we bumped into Jeffree Star hanging out with friends. We said our hello’s and continued on our way to The Roxy. After a long night, we had our traditional In-N-Out dinner of greasy burgers and fries [pictured below]. The shows and walking tired us out, so we called it a night and headed home.

On Friday we woke up late and headed out to a friends house. We caught up with a bunch of old high school friends that we hadn’t seen in a while. It was quite the eventful night. Laughter, Mexican food and dancing made it memorable.

Saturday, we drove from our friends house back down to Sunset. To our surprise, the Sunset Music Festival was bumpin’…which was also the reason that part of Sunset was closed down and made traffic a doozy to get through. After a Summer full of business talks and finally launching Project Midnight we had completely forgotten to buy tickets to the festival. So we ended up eating dinner at the House of Blues. Motion City Soundtrack was playing a show as part of their “4 Albums. 2 Nights. 7 Cities. Tour”. This was when the night started to turn weird. When we got back to the parking lot we came to see that there were people stuck in the elevator. Not going to lie, at the moment it was hilarious. We hope they got out quickly. As we drove down Hollywood on our way home, we passed by a chain of cars with hydraulics. Didn’t think those were even legal anymore, but apparently it’s OK in Hollywood. We then followed the TMZ Hollywood Tour bus for a while, but we caught it at the end of the tour. To top it all off, right in front of the Kodak Theatre a fight broke out it got pretty scary so we decided go home.

Today, we woke up and ate a delicious vegan breakfast of tofu, spinach, tomatoes, and potatoes. We’ve spent the entire day working on Project Midnight and a side project that we have in the works.

Hope your weekend was enjoyable as well. Get up, get out, explore.
